Chapter 2 – What’s been going on so far?
Abián misses work on Monday, just a week after starting at PROYPAL. Jara is a bit worried and convinces Rayco to stop by the engineer’s place.
The version of Abián that Rayco finds is very different from the one he’s seen at the plant: he hasn’t showered in four days and is clearly under the influence of various substances. But the biggest surprise is discovering they share a passion for role-playing games. Rayco helps Abián reconnect with the real world. In return, Abián invites him to dinner and shows off some outstanding culinary skills. Over delicious dishes and heated debates set in Middle-earth, it seems like they might be able to understand each other.
While tensions still flare during the workday, the tone of their clashes seems to have softened. Abián starts showing interest in Rayco, both personally and in his efforts to solve the coupling quality issues.
Abián

He has PhD in engineering, and he’s been in charge of the coupling phase for the past couple of weeks. He copes with anxiety and frustration by taking more drugs than you’d find in an average-size drug den.
He’s a big fan of epic fantasy and role-playing games. He used to play, but gave it up when he moved in with his ex-fiancée. He still has a great collection of books on the subject.
He has a slightly odd obsession with orcs.
He’s an insanely good cook, though his portion sizes are a bit unpredictable.
Rayco
33 y.o. || 186cm (6’1″) || 25 April || Taurus ♉︎
Team lead for the coupling phase. He’s a bit of a workaholic and tends to take on more responsibility than he really should.
He left the Canary Islands at 18 without finishing high school to try his luck on the mainland. He’s really into epic fantasy stuff, especially role-playing games. He’s been playing since he was a kid, thanks to his family.
He has a slightly odd obsession with magical girls.
He eats a lot and a bit like a beast. His favorite thing is sweets.
Supporting characters
Jara – Head of Engineering. She has a great personality and keeps the factory running smoothly. She gets along very well with Rayco and has been helping him earn recognition within the company.
Joan – Quality Engineer. He’s not too happy about Rayco having such an important role in the company without any formal education to back it up.
Ale – Preparation Phase Engineer. She’s very calm and has a great relationship with both Joan and Rayco.
Carme – Post-processing Engineer.
Abián’s Father – Professor at the university where Abián also used to work. He’s very angry with his son over his sudden disappearance. He gives him an ultimatum: either snap out of his delusion within a month, or face the consequences.
Atteneri – Abián’s ex-fiancée. She found out from Abián’s father that he had left the island just a few days after their eight-year relationship ended.
Conchi – Abián’s next-door neighbor. She makes really delicious pastissets. She’s hooked on Vice and Lust Among Volcanoes, a quite horny soap opera set in a volcanic archipelago.
